British Values

British Values at Brant Broughton

At Brant Broughton, we are proud to be a Church of England and Methodist primary school rooted in Christian values, serving our local village community. We are equally committed to promoting the fundamental British values, as outlined by the Department for Education, and believe these values complement and enrich our Christian ethos.

The five British Values are:

  • Democracy
We encourage all children to have a voice. Through our school council, pupil surveys, and regular class discussions, pupils learn the importance of listening to others, sharing their views respectfully, and making decisions together. These experiences help children understand how democracy works in school and in wider society.
  • The Rule of Law
At Brant Broughton, our school rules help create a safe and caring environment for all. Children learn why rules matter, how they keep us safe, and the consequences of breaking them. This understanding is developed through daily routines, collective worship, and in classroom discussions. We also welcome visits from local police and other services to reinforce this message.
  • Individual Liberty
Within a nurturing Christian environment, our children are encouraged to be independent, make good choices, and develop their unique gifts. We help them understand that with freedom comes responsibility, and we support them in using their freedom wisely and respectfully.
  • Mutual Respect
Respect is at the heart of our school and our Christian values. We teach children to treat everyone with kindness and fairness, regardless of differences. Through our curriculum and daily interactions, we model and promote respect for all members of our school and wider community.
  • Tolerance of Those of Different Faiths and Beliefs
As a Church school, we teach children to value and respect people of all faiths, cultures, and backgrounds. We celebrate diversity, explore other world religions in RE lessons, and encourage open and thoughtful discussions. Our aim is to prepare children for life in a diverse and modern Britain, rooted in love, understanding, and compassion.

A Christian Foundation for Life

Our commitment to British Values is deeply connected to our Christian foundation. Through the teachings of Jesus and our school’s values, we seek to nurture children who are thoughtful, respectful, and active members of society, able to live well with others and make a positive difference in the world.
